MARES
CAROLIEN FAN MARKSATE - STER
Carolien, is a 16yr old STER, 2nd Premie, 16.1Hh mare by the stallion Jacob, her dam is by Marko, she came over from Holland with her filly foal, called Una, by Brandus at foot, she arrived on the 8th of November 2006. She is a lovely, big, baroque mare who has bred some stunning foals which are all doing really well. She has a very laid back temperament and a really nice action which she passes on to her foals. We ran her with Wessel in 2007 and on 05/05/08 she produced a gorgeous, huge, baroque, colt who we've named Apollo. We expect him to look like a clone of Wessel when he matures. He has very solid, compact conformation, lovely upright head carriage with a very cresty neck already! and super action. We have decided to keep Apollo for the moment and register him with the FPS.
Carolien will be put back to Wessel again this year.

CORA B. - 2ND PREMIE.
Cora arrived with us on the 9th July 2007 from Germany. She is a fantastic mare, another great example of the breed, with great conformation - definately baroque, a beautiful head, very fancy action, loads of mane and tail and a very sweet temperament. She was born and bred in Germany and has been trained as a ride and drive horse.
Cora is 8yrs old, 16.1Hh, FPS registered and has also been awarded a 2nd Premie.
She has a great pedigree and her sire is the late Goffert 369 who sadly died in February this year, but competed and won at Grand Prix dressage - often scoring over 68% and was awarded Friesian Horse of the Year in 2006 in America, there are quite a few videos of Goffert on Youtube..

Cora has been running with Wessel this year and appears to be in foal as she has not come into season for some time, however we will get her blood tested just to make sure! We will be very excited for the arrival of her first foal next year!
ANKE
Anke at 15 years old.
Anke is pure Friesian 15 year old mare. She is a beautiful fairy tale horse with loads of mane and tail -a great example of the breed, she is the classical style of friesian and about 15.2Hh. Anke is a nice compact sort with perfect conformation and typical showy action and plenty of bone. She has had foals before and we put her in foal not long after we got her in 2004 to Wessel. She had a superb colt foal in July 2005. Her foal which we have named Otto as you can see in the pictures on the left is a fantastic baroque Friesian just like both his parents but he definitely seems to have the extra bit of Wow factor from his Dad who he will be just like. We are retaining Otto as a stallion prospect. Anke had a gorgeous filly called Enya in 2006. Unfortunately Anke lost her foal in 2007 - which was such a shame - it was a lovely little filly , but she was born a month early she must of had a mild infection early on in her pregnancy which compromised the placenta so the foal could not go to term, Anke however is doing well and has shown no signs of being ill, unfortunately these things happen as there are so many naturally occurring bacteria in the mares reproductive tract. The main thing is Anke is fine and she has certainly put plenty of weight on over the summer!
Anke also has a very good pedigree, her sire, Bjinse 241, was a very influential sire in the breed, he sired the famous Lammert 260 who helped save the breed as he had no Tetman blood and had such outstanding characteristics. Bjinse also sired the stallion Othello that appeared in the film Ladyhawke that made the breed so famous, we thought it would be nice to call her first colt Othello after him!! So Anke comes from good stock and will hopefully produce a few more stunners before she retires!
Anke is having another year off this year and we are thinking of putting her to Phoenix are 1/2 Friesian 1/2 Thoroughbred stallion next year when he is old enough to cover. We expect something fantastic from that covering and are very excited about it.

HANNAH - IN MEMORIAM
Sadly Hannah passed away on November 1st - she appeared to have died of a very sudden and severe case of colic. She was absolutely fine the evening before, but when we went to check all the horses in the morning we found her, she had died many hours before, it was a huge shock to all and she will be greatly missed.
Hannah was also a pure Friesian mare, she was 14 years old and we bought her with Anke and Irma in 2004. She was a great mare who had a lovely head and neck on her and was the baroque style friesian with tons of main and tail. Hannah had had foals before but having been overweight when we got her and not having had foals for a while, we decided to put her on a diet. She took to Wessel in 2004 but unfortunately at the end of the year, we sometimes put Wessel out with his mares for a chat in the winter while we are mucking him out, but it looks like he did a little more than chat!! so she had her foal in October 2005. She had a really beautiful filly foal called Eowyn she is very much a baroque style Friesian and has a very large cresty neck and looks to have inherited her mother's good doer gene! and inherited her Dad's handsome head.
Hannah had 2006 off as she had her foal so late . She had a stunning filly in 2007 called Florence, she has a really fancy action and Wessels gorgeous head, and is certainly a big baroque girl!
Hannah was put back to Wessel in 2007 and on 10/05/08 she produced yet another gorgeous filly who we've named Constance. Constance is an absolutely beautiful ,baroque filly with a very refined, feminine head and fantastic action. See NEWS page for more pics of Constance.
HANNAH’S OFFSPRING:
IRMA
Irma is a pure Friesian 11 yr old mare. She is a little more towards the sport horse type of friesian but she is still the baroque build especially when all the good grass goes straight to her neck !!! She has a superb high action and is an extremely agile mare. Her sire Wabe is now standing in New Zealand.
Irma was in foal and had taken like Hannah at the end of 2004 . Unfortunately Irma lost her foal toward the end of her pregnancy later on in 2005 due to the foal getting entangled in it's umbilical cord. She was put back to Wessel in 2006 and had a lovely, compact, baroque colt foal called Falco in March 2007. Falco went on to a new home in London as a yearling and will become a general all round riding horse.
Irma was put back to Wessel in 2007 and on 25/04/08 produced a fantastic looking colt which we have called Orion. He is just like Wessel, has a very sweet temperament, compact and perfect conformation with amazing action - see the NEWS page for more pics of Orion.
Irma has been covered again by Wessel this year.
IRMA’S OFFSPRING:
BESS
Bess was the second horse we bought and she is what started the whole thing off, as we wanted to put her in foal, so we went looking for a stallion and ended up buying two!! - as you do!!
We think she is Irish Cob cross Irish Draught but we are not sure of her entire history, we do know she came from Ireland and was a hunter, we did used to ride her a lot, she was a lovely ride and for such a big chunky girl is actually very smooth and does not have the choppy action associated with cobs, and she can certainly move when she wants to!. She is a very chilled out girl with a very sweet nature, there is not a nasty bone in her! She is the lead mare in the main herd and is a spectacular broodmare who breeds lovely well boned foals.
She was put to our then stallion Nero in 2002 and as a result had Tiberius who has gone on to be a family horse as well as do some basic dressage.
We then decided to put her to Eternal Dream in 2003 and we were really pleased with the beautiful grey colt, Bandit who went with his brother Tiberius.
In 2004 she was put to Eternal Dream again and in 2005 she had the most fantastic bay colt- Musketeer who has gone on to be a show horse and do some dressage, who we would have loved to have kept as a great hunter stallion- we are sure he will achieve great things in the show ring, but having three stallions is going to be quite enough for us and we do want to move over to Friesian breeding.
In 2005 she was put to Eternal Dream and in 2006 had another colt called Griffin who is going on to do carriage driving, he looks just like Bandit. You can see updated pics of Bess’ boys on the sold horses page, kindly sent in by their new owners.
Bess had her first filly, a gorgeous black filly foal in 2007 by Wessel. We thought she would come out a big hairy brick!!, but she is actually quite refined, has very nice, compact conformation and is definitely more toward the friesian as you can see in the pics to the left. Delilah has now gone to a lovely family in the Lakes.
Bess is having a well deserved year off for 2008! We believe she is now in foal for 2009, but will have her blood tested just to make sure.
